9:00 - 9:30 AM - LAND ACKNOWLEGMENT AND MEET THE WINEMAKERS
As stewards of the land in which our grapes are grown, it is important we acknowledge those who came before us and whose land was stolen, whose lives were lost...
9:30 - 10:30 AM - SHIFTING IN THE ATMOSPHERE - THE STATE OF DTC, WHERE ARE YOU?
According to a collaboration report between Sovos ShipCompliant and Wines Vines Analytics, DTC wine shipments declined in 2022, and are on pace to continue to decrease. Where are you in this analysis? How has DTC reduced sales affected your business? What is needed for you to grow or stay afloat?
10:30 – 10:45 AM – Q & A
10:45 – 11:45 AM – THE PRICE IS RIGHT, I THINK?
Do you understand wine pricing? Would it surprise you; most winemakers don’t understand how to price their wines so they can successfully move each vintage annually vs. having wines that sit in the warehouse over several years? We’ll discuss how to create a price structure that is right for you (your business), competitive, and right for the consumer.
11:45 AM - 12:00 PM - Q&A
12:00 – 1:00 PM – BREAK and LUNCH
1:00 – 2:00 PM – THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND, THIS LAND IS OUR LAND
Our history in America and land ownership is tainted. Less than half the Black winemakers own the vineyard from which they produce their wine. The 1862 Homestead Act which gave (or sold at a minimal price) land to white settlers wasn't created to benefit Black people. However, the vineyard owners on the panel will share why they chose to purchase land, challenges they encountered, and victories they've experienced. We'll also hear from winemakers who chose not to go the route of land ownership and why.
2:00 – 2:15 PM – Q & A
2:15 – 2:30 PM - BREAK
2:30 – 3:30 PM – SUNNYSIDE UP AND ARE YOU DOWN FOR THE NEXT GENERATION?
Are you on the upside of your business? Now what? How do we ensure the next generation of Black winemakers have an opportunity? What role will you play in mentorship, internship? How can we help you? Meet the students and hear what they have to say?
3:30 – 4:30 PM – WHAT'S IN YOUR WINE GLASS?
Just for fun (or maybe a little competition), winemakers will have an opportunity to taste their fellow winemakers' wines, and win a prize for more wines guessed. Attendees will also be able to participate.
4:30 – 5:00 PM - WINE GIVEAWAY AND PICK UP WINE PACKAGE
5:00 – 6:00 PM - LIGHT APPETIZERS AND WINE, AND MINGLE WITH THE WINEMAKERS
