The Urban Connoisseurs' inaugural International Winemakers Summit (IWS) is an opportunity for attendees to virtually meet and learn about the diverse population of winemakers of African descent from around the world, and to gain knowledge about the various varietals produced by these winemakers. IWS offers attendees further acknowledgement of how diverse the wine industry is and growing.
According to Statista.com, in 2020 there were over 10,000 wineries in the US. Winemakers of African descent make up less than 1% of winemakers and wineries worldwide. Registered attendees of IWS will have an opportunity to get to learn about these winemakers, their wine journey, the various varietals they have in the portfolio. Discussions will include topics such as: Wine Trends; Terroir and The Difference; A Wine for Every Palate; Sweet vs. Dry Wine; Rosé; The Diverse Aromas and Flavors in Wine; Age Appropriate (Aging Wine); and more. |

Meet the Founder |
Marcia Jones is the founder of Urban Connoisseurs. As a wine consultant, Marcia orchestrates the purchase between the winemaker and distributor and/or owner. She also helps winemakers determine the best strategy to market their brands. Marcia has promoted many Winemakers through her hosted events including The International Women in Wine Celebration in Miami, the International Men in Wine Celebration in San Francisco, and has now launched the inaugural International Winemakers Summit.
Marcia is currently working on her first documentary entitled “Journey between the Vines: The Black Winemakers’ Story” and her first book about the history and present day African Americans in the wine industry. She is also developing a fund to provide scholarships to African American students who want to begin a career in the wine industry. And, with the collaboration of several Black Winemakers, now has a wine blend. Proceeds from the Exclusive JBV Blend will benefit the production cost of the documentary due to release end of 2021. |
